Vitamin E Increase Stroke Risk

Kompas.com - The news is surprising coming from research reports published in the British Medical Journal about the link between vitamin E with stroke. Mentioned that the consumption of vitamin E supplements can increase the risk of stroke.

Scientists from France, Germany and America, which analyzed nine studies involving 119 000 people. They found that for every 1250 people there is a risk of stroke or bleeding in the brain called haemorrhagic strokes. But not yet known at what levels of vitamin E so dangerous.

Haemorrhagic stroke is one type of stroke that is prevalent. Usually these attacks occur when blood vessels that supply blood to the brain ruptures so that the brain not getting enough oxygen. The experts found the vitamin E would increase the risk of stroke is up to 22 percent.

On the other hand, vitamin E actually reduce the risk of ischemic stroke by 10 percent. Ischemic stroke occurs when there is blockage of blood vessels that carry oxygen to the brain.

Even so, experts stated that modifying lifestyle and keep cholesterol and blood pressure remained normal much more meaningful for preventing stroke than taking vitamin E.
